WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY : Save Environment,Save Yourself

What is World Environment Day : World Environment Day which comes on 5^th of June every year. It was initiated by the united nations for encouraging worldwide awareness for the protection of our environment. It was found in the year 1974.

World Environment Day is the day to take an effort to protect the environment.T hat particular effort can be small or huge depending on your choice. Everyone is allowed to take care of the mother nature in their own way on this day. The protection action can be done in solo or it also can be a group activity.

The History behind It : It was established in 1974 during the united nations conference on the human environment, which led to built United Nations Environment Programme ( UNEP ).The main purpose of this programme was to encourage worldwide awareness for the protection of our environment. Since its initiation WED has developed it into a global platform for spreading  awareness and taking action for it. It is celebrated in over 100 countries.

Why It Is Called ‘The People’s Day’ : This day ia celebrated like a festival where people are invited to take care of the earth. Every one is allowed to participate in the action programme to enhance the environment by preserving it.

Theme: Every year World Environment Day is organised around a theme which focuseson a particularly environmental concern. The theme for this year is ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’.This year everyone is requested to come together to fight against one of the major environmental threat of all time. The theme wants us all to reduce the plastic pollution by changing few things from our regular life.

Why Plastic Pollution Needs To Be Stopped:

·       Each year at least 13 million tonnes of plastic end up in the oceans.

·       Each year the whole world uses up to 5 trillion plastic bags.

·       Plastic makes 10 per centage of all of the waste we generate.

·       We buy  1 million plastic bottles at every single minute around the world.

·       50 per cent of the plastic we use is single use.

While palstics are really usable common people has become dependable on single use or disposable plastic which is causing dammage to the environment.

The Host Country: Every World Environment Day has s different global host country, where the celebration takes  place officially. For this year india is chosen as the global host.

How You Can Participate In The Action:

·       Take your own shopping bags to the supermarket.

·       Ask food suppliers to use non-plastic packaging.

·       Refuse plastic cutlery.

·       Pick up any plastic you see next time on the beach or the road.

So, on this  world environment day let’s say no to plastics.
