Kodaikanal : The Gift Of The Forest

 Kodaikanal is the ideal place for nature lovers. If you are looking out for a place which has peace and mesmerizing views to offer then Kodaikanal is the best option for you. The road trip to Kodaikanal from one of the nearby cities like Bangalore, Chennai, or Madurai will amaze you at every turn. The roads are picturesque and the roads are almost traffic free. It is located in the hill of the taluk division of the Dindigul district in the state of Tamil Nadu. The term Kodaikanal in the Tamil language means ‘The Gift of the Forest’.This place is referred to as the ‘Princess of hill station’.

Silver Cascade Park

We started our journey by visiting Silver Cascade park. It is a 55m(180 ft )waterfall formed from the outflow of the Kodaikanal lake.

The upper lake view is that viewpoint from where you can get the top view of the Kodai lake. They also have telescope house at there as well.



The Golf Course

There is also a golf course in Kodaikanal (but general visitors and tourists are not allowed to enter there. Only the members are allowed to go there.

Kodaikanal Lake
It is the most visited place in Kodaikanal. It is a star shaped lake built up in the year 1863. You can enjoy boat rides in the fresh water of the lake. The boat charges are between Rs 50 to Rs 100. A 5km pathway is also there to walk around the exquisite lake for the locals and tourists. You can also hire horses and bicycles on rent which are available next to the lake.

 Bryant Park
It is located at the east of Kodaikanal. It is a beautifully maintained botanical garden. The Bryant Park was built up in 1908 by a forest officer from Madurai named H.D Bryant later this place was named after him . the park consists of 325 species of trees including shrubs and cactuses. There are 740 types of roses. The main attraction of the park is the eucalyptus tree and a bodhi which are there since 1857.


A Meal To Remember

We headed off for our lunch at a restaurant near the Kodai lake. We were served a very delicious vegetarian thali. Kodaikanal is also famous for its handmade delicious chocolates so don't miss them to try.


        How To Reach

v  If you are staying in Madurai, so it is a 4 hr bus journey from Madurai

v  It is 500km from Chennai so railway is the best option for you to reach Kodaikanal from Chennai.

  You will be stopped at various ‘suicide points’ on your way towards Kodaikanal which will give you the nice chance of doing photography.
